Moyse Wedding

After an amazing Christmas, we were back to it on Saturday 27th December for Kayleigh and Ryan’s wedding at Gate Street Barn. We continued the Christmas celebrations and had a great evening with the new Mr & Mrs Moyse and all their guests!

The Venue

Gate Street Barn is a fantastic converted barn venue in the beautiful setting of the Surrey hills. We have been lucky enough to visit to this venue a few times over the years. The wedding party has complete exclusivity of the venue, which includes the main barn, which can hold the ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening reception. There is also the pheasantry, which holds the bar and is the perfect space for guests to have drinks. The barn is the perfect mix of rustic and modern, and is one of the ultimate barn wedding venues.

The Set Up

We arrived at the venue at 16:30 – although the wedding breakfast was in full swing and we were unable to get into the barn to set up, we were able to load our gear into an unused area to cut down on load in time! We were treated to a tasty meal and Greg set up his drum kit so it could be moved straight in. We always try our best to save time when there is a quick turn around for the evening. Once the wedding breakfast and the speeches came to an end, the guests moved through into the pheasantry for tea and coffee, and the turn around could begin! The venue staff cleared tables and space for where we needed to set up, and we began moving our gear through. With our equipment assembled and ready, we started our sound check. This is very important to make sure we sound as good as possible in the room, and that we can hear ourselves, which is crucial to a great performance! Soon, we were ready to go, and everyone was excited for the evening to begin.

The First Dance

At Last – Etta James

We called the newly married couple to the dance floor for their first dance, and began playing ‘At Last’ by Etta James. Kayleigh and Ryan had chosen this song, and what a great choice; the classic love song is perfect for a first dance. With all their family and friends gathered round the barn as they took to the centre, the atmosphere was lovely. It is an absolute treat for me whenever I get to sing ‘At Last’ as a first dance – I love it!

Live Party Band

To carry on with the evening we played ‘Ho, Hey’ by The Lumineers. We find it’s a great song to follow the first dance, as everyone can get involved. The couple had requested ‘Roar’ by Katy Perry, which was really fun to play – we hadn’t played the song in a while, and it’s great to mix it up! A few more fun songs from the first set included the classic ‘September’ by Earth, Wind and Fire’, Paolo Nutini’s ‘Pencil Full Of Lead’, and the Christmas favourite ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’. Even though it was the 27th of December, Kayleigh and Ryan love Christmas and wanted to extend the celebrations for their wedding. We love playing Christmas songs, so it was a bonus for us!

For the second and final set of the evening, we kicked off with ‘Mama Told Me Not To Come’, followed by a list of great party songs. Our Party Medley is always a hit, we love the strong combination of ‘24K Magic’, followed by ‘Crazy In Love’ and then ‘Uptown Funk’. Getting close to the end of the evening, and the sing along songs are pulled out of the bag – ‘Mr Brightside’ is a great one to get the crowd singing. Finally, it was time for one last Christmas song, and the couple were dying to hear ‘Fairy Tale Of New York’. We love this song, and it’s definitely our favourite Christmas song to perform!

We had a great evening celebrating with the new Mr and Mrs Moyse, and all their friends and family. We’d like to thank Kayleigh and Ryan for having us; it was an honour to be a part of your day! Congratulations again!
